"This dress contains some distinct elements of Art Deco. Art Deco was a movement in the 20s and 30s that influenced fashion, art, interior decoration, architecture and display design of department and specialty stores. The term Art Deco derives from the L'Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Moderns. This was an exposition that was held in Paris in 1925. The Art Deco style was characterized by triangles, overlapping circles, ziggurats, fringe, and dark-light contrasts. This dress shows the influence of the triangle shapes in the bodice, as well as dark-light contrasts. The contrast is shown, not only in the red satin and red matte crepe, but in the distinction between the red bodice and the white skirt. The geometric shapes used in Art Deco might have been derived from the emerging popularity of Egyptian and Mayan art. Art Deco faded out during the 40s but enjoyed a revival in the 70s."
